Goin' Down South:

This is a cover of R.L. Burnside’s “Goin’ Down South” inspired by a solo performance of his at The Brotherhood Sportsmen's Lodge in Como, MS from 1974. This has always been one of the most influential Hill Country songs in my musical journey, and I know I am not alone in that, but the version which this is based on has been a strong stand-out for me for years.

I am privileged to play this song with the Burnside family frequently, and to release my own version inspired by R.L.'s 1974 groove, but in my style!

Stay On My Mind:

In memory of my father, Richard Harrell, who passed away in 2019, Stay On My Mind is an original that taps into the psychedelic, ethereal side of my musical inspirations as a nod to his proclivity for the heady, psych side of the music he grew up with, which became known as Classic Rock.

Written on acoustic as a fingerpicked melody, my father weighed heavily on my mind as the feel of the song was solidified and lyrics were written: "Think of when I saw you, wishing I had only knew," hearkens back to the last time I saw him - he came to see our show in Hattiesburg, MS while on a Southeastern tour in March of 2019. He unexpectedly passed a month later, the night before I was to see him again. I will forever remember watching him walk away that night, and am forever wishing I had only knew...

Live at the Zebra Ranch is Now Streaming!

Recorded live, quick, and dirty in the woods outside of Independence, MS at Jim Dickinson's Zebra Ranch Studio. This was a fun project put together with my brother, Kane Harrell, in the midst of the Mississippi summer of 2023. We wanted to capture fully live takes of some of our favorite songs we do, in an afternoon - no overdubs. In and out. There may be "mistakes," but we see them as character marks that add to "the live experience" that we all love. An honest representation of the craft. We are excited to share it with you!
